About EJKA
The European Janusz Korczak Academy is a Jewish foundation from 2009, open to the wider society.
Its goal is to strengthen the Jewish community by imparting knowledge, to open it up and to reduce fear of contact in every direction. The Academy has earned a reputation as an experienced and competent partner for young and old in educational work, with a special focus on Jewish cultural education and interreligious or intercultural dialogue. Our intercultural and interreligious orientation in particular opens up our offerings to a broad audience and thus ensures lively participation even beyond the Jewish target groups.
The Academy has three educational centers, so-called Janusz Korczak Houses, in Munich, Berlin and Duisburg.

ABOUT JANUSZ KORCZAK
Janusz Korczak (1878 o. 1879 - 1942, real name Henryk Goldszmit) was a physician, educator and author, who is considered a pioneer of children's rights. In Warsaw, from 1911, he directed the Jewish orphanage Dom Sierot, where he implemented radical pedagogical reforms for his time. His pedagogy of respect, which he laid down in numerous books, was decades ahead of its time and is more relevant today than ever. After two visits to Mandate Palestine in the 1930s, Korczak returned to Poland each time. After the German invasion, his orphanage was also moved to the Warsaw Ghetto, where he maintained a kind of daily routine for the children with great difficulty. He turned down several offers to save himself - and also accompanied his orphans on their deportation to the Treblinka extermination camp in early August 1942. Here Korczak's life ended, but his ideas, dedication, and deep humanity continue to have an impact today.
